Ultimately the controllers and the nobs on the controllers do a great job protecting the device from typical drops here and there. But eventually those will break, but the good news is that they are easily replaceable. But with the screen being plastic, you'll want to get a screen protector or you'll end of scratching it badly over time. But I don't think you'll need a case to keep this device alive generally.
